Sneakers, Centennials, and Rock ‘N Roll!!!

It seems that Converse (#1 choice of 1920s b-ball stars and indie rock hipsters alike) is celebrating 100 years of being in the sneaker business by releasing a line of limited edition kicks that pay homage to rock greats The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, and Kurt Cobain. The designs, which are printed on both the classic Chuck Taylor and Jack Purcell high tops, feature iconic images associated with the groups, such as the Dead skull and Cobain’s sketches from him journals. (On a side note, you almost have to admire Courtney Love’s complete and utter lack of shame.) Read More »

Walk This Way: Survey Says Sneaker-Heads Make Better Leaders

sneakers-obsession.jpg

Sure, your laces are clean, no scuffs on the toe, you’ve got the new SB Dunks on reserve, and a closet filled with pristine kicks back at home. But did you know that blowing half your paycheck on shoes might actually be worth more than looking fresh?

A new poll shows that people who buy three or more pairs of sneakers per year are much more likely to possess superior leadership skills than those who don’t. Read More »

John Mayer Writes 10 Lines About His Ex

mayer_simpson

…And the whole f**king internet goes crazy!

On his little blog, while he was at the airport, John Mayer wrote 10 lines about how his ex-girlfriend should move on and leave him alone. Minutes after he posted it, half of the net and almost all of the gossip sites started guessing who it was. My question is, why does anyone care?

I write s**t about my ex all the time - Brooke, you really are a skank (just kidding…!) - and no one seems to care. Yet here is a dude who has banged half of the hotties and Hollywood and he is bitching that they keep calling him to get some?

Ok, John - maybe you need to realize how nice you have it. Maybe you should come up to Albany and find some dirty biatch (like Brooke) who will gob your nob and then b*tch about it for a semester. I will hang out at your posh midtown apartment and live the life of a millionaire bachelor. Read More »

Some Things Just Ain’t Worth the Travel

parishilton1truscello.jpgApproximately one year ago I spent a weekend at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

To this day, I get emails from the PR group that runs the nightclub and other bars inside the hotel/casino complex. Ordinarily I don’t mind much. I like to remember my days and nights in the desert, and even look forward to planning my trip back.

But this week, it’s been two emails a day. About Paris effing Hilton’s birthday party this weekend. And I am slightly peeved.

I admit that I have a shameless love for some things poppy and tacky, we all have our vices. But Paris Hilton is not one of them. She most definitely is not about to inspire me to fly to Vegas when I can just wait for her to make an ass of herself in the Meatpacking District on her next trip to New York.

These invites got me thinking, though. Really, who is worth flying across the country for? If you’ve got to pick one celebrity whose birthday shenanigans you’d like to be a part of, who would it be? Read More »

Young, Fabulous, and Broke: How to Survive Without Much Green

23524061.jpgOf course there would be a clothing designer to capitalize off the twenty-something lifestyle. Young, Fabulous, and Broke is another high-end label that produces denim pricing-out around a quarter of my monthly rent and a cute little dress for my bi-weekly food budget.

Awesome! I can advertise the truth at last!

There’s no shame in being le broke, whether you’re in college or just out of it. The trick is to live it up without blowing through your checking account. Truthfully, the percentage of recent college grads making bank isn’t that high, we just have a lovely little tendency to live beyond our means and lack patience.

Label whores, I address you first. I’m one of you. The trick here is to get the look without going broke. Sales are where it’s at.

Instead of shopping consistently, go less often and go for classic pieces. Hit up outlet malls (there are some fantastic ones out there. In the tri-state area, I fully endorse Woodbury Commons, where I snagged a pair of Dior shades for $60 this summer and have seen BCBG at 75% off), wait until end-of-season, whatever. If it must be designer, you can tough it out until you can afford it. Trendpieces are best left to Forever21 and H&M. Read More »

Five Things Real Men Don’t Sport

Five Things Real Men Don’t Sport

Lots of guys know how to dress. It’s definitely a turn-on when they find a style that fits their personalities. And even if they don’t have the know-how, sometimes all it takes is confidence, and even the biggest male fashion blunder can be overlooked.

But girls, we’ve all been here before:

“He’s really cute! Omigod…..well he was before I noticed he was wearing……that.”

“That” could be one of five things that, in my opinion, can make a good-looking, adorable, manly-looking kinda guy go from potential hook-up hottie, to….. “I think I see my friend over there.”

Beware. Counting down to the most irritating, here are the top five things real men should never sport. Ever. If you have a boyfriend who applies to this list, (though I hope that’s not the case) share this with him immediately. Share with everyone you can.

Strappy Sandals. You know the kind. The complicated, brown leather sandals with a slight heel. These monstrosities don’t make any outfit look anything remotely close to good.

Bracelets. Unless he’s wearing a diamond bracelet in hopes you’ll see it and say, “Hey, why are you wearing that diamond bracelet?” and he’ll say, “Oh, it’s actually for you. And there’s a lot more where that came from,” bracelets on guys are unnecessary. Read More »

Get Classy with a XYXX Condom Case

XYXX Condom Case

Girls like dopey cute guys, but not the types that fumble around with condom wrappers and put the safety net on backwards. That’s not dopey or cute - it’s stupid and embarrassing.

Also, stuffing a pack of condoms in your pocket not only looks ridiculous (responsible, but ridiculous) but also may look quite unattractive to females. Would you be turned on by a girl with condoms visibly stuffed in her pants pocket? Don’t answer that. Read More »

You’ll enjoy finding new cost-effective ways to reinvent yourself. Even better, you’ll find the ladies loving the new you.

Heavy stubblestubble
