I don’t like to talk about how the XBOX360 is better then the PS3. I own a 360, but I’ve played the PS3 and I like it just fine. It’s a solid platform and the game I played on it (Ratchet and Clank) was quite fun. However, if you can’t read the writing on the wall that the PS3 is hurting, you’re either completely blind or hopelessly obsessed.
Yesterday at E3, Square Enix showed a trailer for the next game in their hyper-popular series, Final Fantasy. A series that was first a Nintendo property, and then at the turn of the console wars (when the N64 proved to be the weaker system) swore allegiance to the Playstation platform. Until now. The next game, Final Fantasy XIII (which looks, for all intents in purposes, gorgeous but pretty standard) will be available for both the 360 and the PS3.
Check out the Final Fantasy XIII after the jump!
For those counting, that’s the second major property they’ve lost exclusive rights too in 2 years. One of them being one the highest grossing games all time, Grand Theft Auto 4.
I can’t help but feel sorry for Sony, who’s dedication to a bizarre and twisted vision of a world that can afford (and has a desire to buy) a $600 console hasn’t turned many dividends for them. Oh well, you’ll always have Blu-Ray and Metal Gear Solid.

Why call this article loses another exclusive? Isn’t that title misleading? It describes final fantasy as being on both 360 and ps3 consoles I don’t get how the title has anything to do with the article.
It’s not misleading or irrelevant. Final Fantasy used to be EXCLUSIVE to Playstation. Now it’s for BOTH (aka *not exclusive*) Xbox 360 and PS3. That’s exactly what the article talks about. Do you even know how to read?
I called it ‘Loses another Exclusive’ because the PS3 lost another exclusive.
Exclusive titles are how consoles make their bread and butter cash. Halo 3 anyone? There is a reason you don’t see Halo3 on the PS3.
What the author fails to realize is that Sony as a company is and has been positioning the PS3 to have a pruduct life of roughly 10 years, just like the previous iterations of the system. Microsoft on the otherhand has positioned the 360 to have a maximum shelf life of 5 years. I personally prefer the 360 but acknowldge that the system has peaked, it’s pretty much down hill from Halo 3 on out. If you want to look at exclusives then look no farther than the PS3, Resistnace, MAG, Rachet and Clanck, SOCOM, Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet, the list goes on and on. The power of the 360 gets pretty much tapped out by the Unreal engine, (think Gears of War 2), while the 360 is chuggin alot runnign at %100 capacity, the PS3 is doing the same thing, barely breaking a sweat, using maybe %50 of it’s juice. I write this not as a fanboy (I own a 360 not a PS3) but as someone who knows games and has a decent business sense.
Oh yea, & the grandady, Gran Tourismo, is also OS3 exclusive.
Boggle Brain,
I don’t care how Sony frames it. Their system lost a huge exclusive.
Comparing Little Big Planet and SOCOM to Final Fantasy betrays your motivations.
The article isn’t about the overarching plans for the PS3 anyways, and I enjoy the PS, regardless of how Sony desperately describes their situation as ‘long term growth potential.’
It’s about FF, a huge series that has millions of fans (and if you don’t think FF is a deal breaker like MSG was, you’re lying to yourself, people BUY systems based on where this franchise is), being available for both systems.
I hear what your saying, and I am not trying to “dis” your entire article, I’m just sayign that taken in the broader context of where the two systems are in terms of lifecycle I’d say that if what platform offers the most exclusives is the main motivating factor behind your purchase then buying a PS3 is a no brainer. They simply have more exclusives, and trust me, Gran Tourismo is jsut as big as the FF series, as is MGS, the list of AAA exclusives still waiting in the wings for PS3 is long and promising.
