For decades, people have been listening to Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon while watching The Wizard of Oz for its excellently eerie sync-ups. Fans of the music-video combo purport hundreds of instances where the two mediums seem to mesh perfectly, giving fans the feeling of a secret connection between the two. That, and it’s really fun to watch while smoking weed.
Versions of the Dark Side of The Rainbow (named so to reference the Floyd album title and prism album cover-art, and Oz’s “Over the Rainbow” song) have popped repeatedly over the years. It’s been played on Turner Classic Movies, with Dark Side of the Moon offered as a alternate soundtrack and referenced in Family Guy and various other television shows and movies.
Despite its popularity, Pink Floyd has consistently denied the two were intended to go together, saying it’s merely a coincidence. But that doesn’t keep paranoid fans from linking the two, to this day.
To recreate the effect in the best way, pause the album just before it starts. Start the movie, and mute the sound on the TV. Hit the “play” button on your stereo as soon as the black and white MGM lion roars the third time. To continue the effect, restart the album when the Cowardly Lion, in his first scene, roars the third time.
Or, you can just hit up our friends at GorillaMask.net, where someone else has done all the work for you–which is how stoners like to do things, anyway.
