COED Presents: Top 7 Web Comics Worth Reading Regularly

cartoons.jpg

For a time growing up, I wanted to be a cartoonist that was featured daily in my hometown’s newspaper. My imaginary comic strip was about a rambunctious pup named Pip and his wacky adventures on the Moon. My Dad got wind of my dreams and beat me inches from my life and ran out on my family in shame.

While his disappointment drove me to a life of data entry and jerking off to a personally sketched young version of Loretta Lockhorn (it’s surprisingly erotic), I have always appreciated those who succeeded in the field. With the recent advent of the internet, my selection has grown beyond Family Circus, and For Better or For Worse. Marmaduke and Dagwood are routinely taking a back seat to the world of online comics, where censorship is down and easy to follow storylines are not necessary.

Get Your War On

Get Your War On

These Comics are not for your typical meathead Republicans, or even your typical closet homosexual who is Republican because he thinks it will make him appear manly, but David Rees does a nice job pointing out the bullshit around the Iraqi War and the Bush Administration.

The Perry Bible Fellowship

The Perry Bible Fellowship

The granddaddy of web comics. Disturbing, obscene, awesome. If you meet a girl who doesn’t like the PBF, just walk away cause it aint worth it.

XKCD

F’ing hilarious, but you need a degree in computer engineering to understand some of the jokes, but not too many to not read this, constantly. Probably best described as the Perry Bible Fellowship’s JV Team.

Dinosaur Comics

Easily the strangest on the list. The pictures never change, just the words. It works surprisingly well…

Bob the Abnormal

Really solid stuff, the art is some of the best. The humor is most similar to something you’d find in the newspaper, with an online edge.

Garfield Minus Garfield

This Web comic is almost cheating, but it is to funny not to include. All they do is take Garfield out of the Garfield comics, leaving Jon Arbuckle by himself. The strip is transformed from a daily dose of a bad attitude cat, to a look into a life of a deranged, lonely man. Incredible.
