Columbia University President Lee Bollinger called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to task. When the terrorist turned President at long last made his appearance at the university, he was introduced to the crowd with a harsh scolding from Bollinger on his countryâs human-rights record and his denial of the Holocaust.
Calling him a âpetty and cruel dictatorâ? whose Holocaust denial would only fool the âignorant and illiterateâ?, Bollinger said Ahmadinejad was either âbrazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated.â? Before he gave his prepared speech to the audience, Ahmadinejad responded by saying those statements were âan insult to information and to the knowledge of the audienceâ? However, if anyone insulted the knowledge of the audience, it was Ahmadinejad himself.
Ahmadinejad spent the rest of the discussion period showing off his talent for dodging questions. When asked about his denial of the Holocaust, he claimed he never made those remarks and wanted more research done on the subject. So six million people just vanished into thin air, right Ahmadinejad? He then proceeded to inform the students about physics and how studies are never ending, justifying his answer by saying he was an academic. I would think an academic would know that physics is used to predict the future while history examines the past. When asked about his countryâs treatment of women and homosexuals, he talked about how Iran had two female vice presidents and that women are allowed to participate in education and administrative positions. He flat out said there were no homosexuals in Iran, which earned him a laugh from the crowd.
Ahmadinejad went on to address being denied a visit to the site of 9/11 by saying he only wanted to pay his respects to the families that lost loved ones. He also told people that he felt the groups that protested this and his visit were selfish. He concluded by telling the audience that Iran could be friends with the United States if it put aside old behaviors. Unfortunately, that will only happen when Ahmadinejad and his regime change a couple of behaviors of their own, which judging from this speech isnât going to happen anytime soon.
