Bring in your pets, stock up on supplies, don’t pay your credit card bill…the end is near.
Oh yes, locusts are imminent: gay Republicans and the ACLU are working together, in harmony.
Idaho’s Republican Senator, Larry Craig, has stepped back into the limelight with an attempt to somehow stuff himself back in the closet. The former Veterans’ Affairs and House Ethics Committee member, married Suzanne Thompson in 1983 and adopted the three children she had from a previous marriage (he has no children of his own).
As we all know, good ol’ Larry loves the fellas in airport terminal bathroom stalls - and now the ACLU are making some pretty awesome excuses for him.
The ACLU filed a brief Tuesday supporting Craig. It cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms “have a reasonable expectation of privacy.” That means the state cannot prove Craig was inviting an undercover officer also noted that Craig was originally charged with interference with privacy, which it said was an admission by the state that people in the bathroom stall expect privacy.
That is genius…absolutely genius. I know ACLU lawyers are smart, but to say that anyone who tries to bang or whack in a public restroom stall has an “expectation of privacy” is bat-sh** insane. A genius technicality, but I wonder how many people actually believe that.
My roommate is pre-law, and explained this to me - the “reasonable person” theory. In law, it is not what you or I believe or think, it is what a “reasonable person” would believe. So lawyers sit in court, and debate common sense…literally.
In this case, the ACLU and Craig claim that any normal, “reasonable” dude - looking to bang other dudes - in a public bathroom stall…in the airport…expects privacy.
…I really don’t know where to begin with that one…
I am not homophobic but if I can’t bring a chick into the men’s bathroom for a tongue-down session, neither can Andy Dick or Larry Craig. There is no expectation to sexual privacy, but rather privacy from other dudes (like Dick and Larry) looking to get their “whack” on at my expense. Is the ACLU just bored or are they so desperate to get some Republican support for the upcoming elections?
There are much more pressing civil liberties issues at stake besides Senators being able to have gay sex in public bathrooms. How are digital usage issues and the RIAA; or students losing their right to privacy on their MySpace pages; or the disappearance of ANY anonymity on the internet anymore?
Oh no…gay sex in airport bathroom stalls…my bad.
The locusts are coming alright, but only if they are gay and in the airport bathroom.
