In our endless search for maximum comfort, man has gone to great lengths to feel at home, whether on the road or in air. A moment away from our mobile devices makes us irritable; JetBlue knows this and is planning to keep us connected.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that JetBlue will begin a trial run with free in-flight Wi-Fi for passengers aboard selected planes starting December 11. Yahoo and Research In Motion Ltd. are the supported formats thus far, meaning that browsing will be limited to email and IMs.
Still, it’s better than nothing for tech-types that need their quick fix.
One question: will there ever be a time when the last thing people want to be around is technology? In this computer-governed world sometimes I’d like to just fall off the grid for a moment.
All of these gadgets and their uses seem to be steering us farther from social settings and simple relaxation. I have an iPod that never leaves my side; I’m attached to it. But even with 60GB of songs at my disposal I yearn for something else - maybe a book for a change - instead of feeding in to my constant need for tech stimulation.
With that said, I’ll be tracking down the next Wi-Fi flight as soon as it comes around. Technology has me by the short and curlies. We feed what we breed, I guess.
