If New Jersey Nets minority owner Jay-Z has his way, Lebron James will join the Nets when his contract with the Cleveland Cavilers expires in 2010.
It is said that James would like to join a major market team, and although it seems the Knicks are a likely front-runner for the Lebron bidding war, it is unclear whether or not they will be able to afford the star under the league’s stringent salary cap rules.
The Nets are expected to have a very talented young squad. And by recently trading-off Richard Jefferson to Milwaukee for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons, the Nets have cleared up $22 million necessary for signing a franchise player like James.
In 2011, the Nets are expected to move to Brooklyn–and with James on board, the Nets could become the premiere team in the nation’s largest market. Sorry Cleveland, you might have take one for the team…uh…actually, you’re just screwed.
