We all know the charges, and we all find them disgusting and reprehensible; but despite the outcries from all the protestors, the National Football League should not suspend Atlanta Falcon’s quarterback Michael Vick because of the allegations of his involvement in an underground dog-fighting operation.
70 dogs were found in the back of a house in Surry County, Virginia, bearing lacerations that are commonly associated with dog fighting. Michael Vick owns the property. His cousin, who was arrested on drug charges, provided the address.
Protestors from PETA, Russell Simmons, and everyone’s favorite attention monger Reverend Al Sharpton argue that Michael Vick’s high profile as a player in the NFL makes him a role model and his involvement in such an operation sends a bad message that the NFL tolerates this behavior. The problem with this assessment is that Vicks involvement in a dog-fighting league has nothing to do with the NFL; it is not the league’s responsibility to police their players off the field so long as what they do does not affect league play. It is not the NFL’s job to be a babysitter to its players, and when one of them breaks the law, it’s up to the courts to mete out the appropriate punishment. Nobody ever said professional athletes were classy people.
Now I don’t follow football that closely but, if anything, I want Michael Vick to play for one reason: the football field is the best place for justice to be delivered. There have to be some football players out there who are dog lovers. Don’t you think some of them would love nothing more than to blitz this guy worse than LT snapped Joe Theisman’s leg? So I say, let them! Trust me, if he plays he’ll be running. So forget suspension. Put him on the field where he belongs and make him a bull’s-eye! He is a quarterback after all.
Michael Vick makes his first court appearance on July 26th. Ironically that’s the first day of training camp for the Falcons.

Nice point todd. Another thing that blows my mind is how the media is slowly turning this into the new Duke Lacrosse thing. He has yet to be charged with a crime, and has not been convicted. Whatever i think of him, you think of him, or the participants of this poll feel, It is not a very American thing to punish someone who has not been found guilty.
Its a seperate matter, dude! Let him play. Now as far as his ads, thats his own fault, he’s screwed himself out of millions.
I believe Mr. Vick has been set up by his own relatives and so call friends. His property is huge and yes he may own pit bulls like a lot of other people. Believe me black people will bring you down, if you do not watch them closely. Vick is a national football star, young, handsome, with a pretty good education and he has a little money. In other words, he has a lot going for him. These public stars who have their so call entourage always around them for protection, most of these people are nothing but hanger-ons. Most do not mean any good to these stars, and some can be bought to set up some stars. Shit happens, the wrong person can be bought and paid to lie. I hope Mr. Vick get the best lawyer in the world. I truly believe the guilty one is not Vick, but his cousin. I know Black people, I going to take someone down with me. I believe a disagreement occurred among him and his hanger-ons. They were making a little money, Mr. Vick found out about what was going on and he was threaten what would happen to his career, if he did not go along with them. Just because something happens on your property and you do not know what is happening, you are not guilty of the incident. Yes, it may be on your property, but if you travels alot and real busy, it can be hidden from you. Eventually, you will find out about it, but the people are in too deep and they will not stop. They are making a little money; you see Vick has money and they do not. They will bring him down with them and they will give up his name, and with the powers that be, they would used Vick’s name, because he is well known.
