NCAA Basketball Picks Of The Day - Feb. 12, 2008

NCAA Basketball Picks Of The Day

Yesterday did not fair well for our cappers as they racked up one win but three L’s.

New comer Fenboy (taking Portland - 5 last night) can thank Pepperdine’s Rico Tucker (Facebook Message or Poke) for scoring 17 points, all of them in the second half, as Pepperdine overcame an 18-point second-half deficit to beat Portland 71-66 giving Fenboy an 0-1 start.

Like Bone (taking Kansas -4.5 last night) said this was a huge game for both Texas and Kansas. The rivalry is quickly becoming the marquee match-up of the Big 12 conference. Bone’s player to watch, Brandon Rush (Facebook message or poke), was the key to Kansas’ loss scoring only 10 points, 3 below his season average, securing a 3 point cover busting loss for the Jayhawks.

New comer Gebsta (taking St. Mary’s +5.5 last night) didn’t fair well either. It came down to the wire but St. Mary’s couldn’t tack on two additional last seconds points to cover the spread in their 54-50 win against Santa Clara.

DA Zeus (taking Utah State +6.5 last night) was right on with his prediction as Vegas gave Utah State 1.5 points too many. Utah State covered the +6.5 spread bringing DA Zeus to an overall tie with Bone at 1-1.

Today we welcome capper K-Lo from Seton Hall University - hopefully he has a better first round then Fenboy and Gebsta did yesterday.

Check out today’s picks and view the leader board after the jump!

Fenboy (0-1) from Marist College

The Pick: DePaul + 4 1ST HALF vs Louisville

It would not be a stretch to say that Louisville is one of, if not the hottest, team in college hoops right now. Coming off a 14 point win at Marquette and a enormous 59-51 over the Hoyas of Georgetown at Freedom Hall on Saturday Night, I see Louisville coming out a little flat on the ROAD for the first 20 minutes against a streaky DePaul squad. Whether or not Louisville regains its balance in the second half is questionable, but that is why I will take DePaul and the points for the first half.

Stud to Watch: Draelon Burns leads DePaul with 17.7 points per game, but he is averaging only 14.0 points and shooting 37.7 percent in six home conference games. The senior guard went only 1-for-8 from the floor and made 3 of 6 free throws to total five points in the last meeting with Louisville. For DePaul to be successful tonight, they need the 6′4 senior Burns to step up and have a big game against a strong Louisville defense.

DA Zeus (1-1) from Fairfield University

The Pick: Vanderbilt -3.5 vs Kentucky

Many experts are saying that Kentucky has been playing their best basketball of the season having won their last 5. But not so fast my friend. Vandy has won their last 3 with the last two being very difficult SEC road games. Oh yea did I forget to mention that Vandy is 14-0 at home this season as well. I’m sorry Vanderbilt is the better team here. Just beware of the backdoor cover garbage three at the end of the game. Otherwise this should basically be a free blank check to the bank with you choosing the amount.

Bone (1-1) from from Lynchburg College
The Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels -8 vs. Virginia Cavaliers

People might ask “why pick such a large favorite on the road?” Well that is a legit question, but the answer is simple: the Tar Heels are a dominant team and Virginia is atrocious. If you saw the Cavs (1-8) conference record and thought it was a mistake, well I got news for you, it’s not! The reason why the line is only 8 points is because UNC’s star point guard will still not be in the lineup, but guess who is?… big TY HANSBROUGH. The kid is coming off a 39 pt. performance, 1 point shy of his career high, and I don’t see him slowing down at all. And, as we all saw last game UNC played, if the game goes into OT they can still cover the spread. But don’t worry I don’t see that happening here. Look for the final to be somewhere around 92-77 final.

Stud to Watch: You guessed it! Tyler Hansbrough. Look for Hansbrough to dominate the boards and have another stellar performance in the offensive category. Also, stopping Sean Singletary of the Cavs means stopping the Cavs period. Good Health to all, lets get back on track here.

Gebsta (0-1) from Seton Hall University
The Pick:
Marquette -3.5 vs Seton Hall University

I started writing this thing in favor of Seton Hall but the more I looked into the game the more I liked Marquette. The tipping point was today’s weather. “The Rock” is a very difficult place for an away team to win at but game time weather is expected to be snowy which will turn away fans (students especially) and this could offer less of a challenge to Marquette then a packed house would. Seton Hall is also in the midst of a 3 game losing streak which effectively ended their hopes for a March Madness bid and with Marquette teetering on the verge of falling out of the Top 25 I think Marquette has more to lose and more to play for than the Pirates.

Stud to Watch: Hand down, Jamar Nutter (Facebook Poke or Message him). This guy is off and on like a light switch. One game he’ll drop 18 points with 5 three’s and multiple assists and rebounds like last game vs Vallaniova and the next he won’t score a bucket until 5 minutes into the 2nd half and end the game with 4 points total. If he comes out hot Marquette doesn’t have a shot because it will open up shot opportunities for Guard Brain Laing and 3 point sharp shooter Jeremy Hazell (Facebook Message or Poke him) but if they can keep Nutter contained then Marquette should have a walk in the park.

K-Lo (0-0) from Seton Hall University

The Pick: Seton Hall +3.5 vs Marquette

Seton Hall should have won at Marquette a few weeks back and they match up real well with the Golden Eagles compared to other teams like ND and Gtown. Marquette is on the road which is tough regardless of attendance and this game is do or die for Seton Hall. Seton Hall will show some heart and I think this game is winnable. The ND game was an aberration other then that we’ve played everyone tough, we just beat Louisville a few weeks ago who is probably now the best team in the Big East.

Stud to Watch: This is a two part answer. Seton Hall is very dangerous because they have a few shooters to go with guards Harvey and Laing that can make them unstoppable but if the shot doesn’t fall then Seton Hall isn’t big enough to get easy shots.

  1. Negro Grande says :

why the hell are you letting all these nobodies cap games? this is a waste of space.. all they’re telling me is old information i could’ve looked up from past espn box scores myself

take michigan state -1 over purdue.. i’ve seen both teams live this season, mich st is way too big and physical for purdue to bang with in the paint.. they’ll win by at least 6, maybe more depending on free throws down the stretch

  2. negro grande' s mom says :

Negro grande, go choke on negro grande dong. Box scores give you information, but you have to know how to analyze it. You must be ignorant bettor because those are just the basics of capping a game. Stick to your MEATY burrito dongs.

  3. Editor says :

Negro - that’s the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. The key to analyzing a game and making a winning pick is looking at sources like ESPN for “old” information (statistics) otherwise making your decision would be like flipping a coin. The cappers are breaking down the stats that led to their pick.

Even tho you are dumb I do agree with Mich - 1 over purdue.

  4. Negro Grande says :

there’s more to capping games than reading old box scores, girls.. box scores give you info, but they don’t tell the whole story - look at a team like last year’s Southern Illinois team.. they never filled the stat sheet (62ppg), but they were still 29-7 and 19-15-1 against the spread

DA Zeus tells us that Vandy is 14-0 at home this year.. that’s great.. but that’s not ATS, that’s straight up

against the spread, Vandy is a less than impressive 5-8 (their home game against Lipscomb was off the board)

Vandy is also just 3-6 ATS in conference games this season, while Kentucky is 7-1, including 5-0 in their last 5 games

also, in their last meeting Pat Patterson put up 23 and 12 for Kentucky.. 6 of those 12 on the offensive glass which was more than the entire Vandy team had

Vandy’s been in a major slump since that loss at Kentucky, while the Wildcats have been hot - i don’t think Vandy’s all of a sudden gonna learn how to keep the Cats off the glass

I’d take Kentucky and the points

  5. negro grande' s mom says :

Mich state is looking great negro grande , so go back to sucking your negro grade dong. no one cares what you say. ur a joke.

  6. Negro's boy toy says :

Hey Negro, who is asking you to check out the picks? These picks are for people who want a little insight on games this kids look long and hard at, and know basketball. If kids dont know about BBall and want to make a little wager somewhere and get some extra cash then they might wanna take a look at what these kids are talking about. Maybe you might wanna tail some of these kids and make some dough so you can get off welfare. And way to throw in your 2 sense with that MSU pick, really seems like you know what your talking about. Maybe you might wanna get your info from those box scores cuz looks like you dont know shit besides bending your dad over the bed and giving him the old 1 2 pound session. Come back when you can pick a winner.

  7. Negro's dill says :

  8. Negro Grande says :

  9. Negro's dill says :

maybe u shouldve thought about that before you came in here and started calling people nobodies…..stay hot with that Kentucky pick as well haha

Actually keep posting ur picks please so I can fade the shit out of you and become rich..then I’ll be able to tip ur mom

  10. negro grande' s mom says :

hopefully negro grande choked on that dong so i don’t ever have to hear his bullshit analysis again.

  11. Gebsta says :

    Negro on the night

    Michigan State -1 (loss)
    Kentucky +4 (loss)

PS Kentucky lost by 41 points… Vandy is the real deal
