AL MVP: Manny Ramirez

Manny is 4 home runs away from 500 and is tallying career year numbers thus far. His Red Sox sit atop the AL East in a tie with the Rays, and continue to see the hated Yankees disappear further and further off in the rear view.

NL MVP: Chipper Jones

ESPN said it correctly when they honored Jones with the player of the month award: “[How] can we not award this honor to a guy who hit .410, rolled up an 1.145 OPS, bombed eight homers and essentially won four games for his injury-wracked team single-handedly?” AT age 36, if Jones can stay healthy, he could have the best year of his career–and win his second NL MVP Award.

AL Cy Young: Cliff Lee

Cliff Lee has always been a solid Major League starter. but thus far in 2008 Cliff Lee is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA. We’re not sure what attributed to this ridiculous turn around but Lee must have been eating his Wheaties.

NL Cy Young: Brandon Webb

To say Webb (6-0, 1.98) has been lights out would be a gross understatement. No one in the national league can touch this guy. But buyers beware, this is the third time in his career that he has started off 5-0 in April. If Webb can keep it up all year, expect the Diamondback to roll through the World Series.

AL Rookie of the Year: Kosuke Fukudome

A veteran of the Japanese League, 31 year old Fukudome (.326, 1 HR, 9 RBI) has made a seemingly successful transition to the majors. Justin Upton would have easily won this award, but he had 10 AB’s too many to be eligible.

NL Rookie of the Year: Jacoby Ellsbury

Statistically, Fukudome is the best rookie in all of baseball. That said, Jacoby Ellsbury is putting together a solid year, and one of the leading reasons why the Red Sox will win the AL East this season.
