Last night’s 15 inning All-Star marathon featured some of the best baseball play we will ever see.
By the 7th, inning major league leading vote getters like Ramirez and Rodriguez were benched and it was left up to the young studs of baseball like Justin Morneau, Russell Martin, Michael Young and the unlikely Nate McLouth to decide the outcome of the game.
We saw a seven inning pitcher’s duel full of heroic defense, timely hitting, aggressive base running, and best of all, hustle! Read More »

In May of 1963, Mickey Mantle hit a 734ft blast at Yankee Stadium that was a few feet short of leaving the park all together. To put that in perspective, at the height of his 1998 steroid usage Mark McGwire’s longest blast was a mere 545 feet. What a slacker…
Tonight’s Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium starts at 8PM and the line-up lacks the punch of Prince Fielder and Ryan Howard, so chances are Mickey’s epic Yankee Stadium shot will not be challenged, but the event should still be fun to watch.
In any case, I have two ways to make tonight’s event even more exciting.
Betting money can make even the most boring events fun. My buddy Kevin came up with an extremely simple way to get some action on the contest amongst friends. Have everyone throw in $5 and pick a derby contestant out of a hat. Winner takes all. Simple, no skill involved and pays out immediately. Just hope that you don’t get a player from a team you despise because cheering for a hated player might not be worth the $30.
Not everyone is a gambling fiend like myself, so instead of throwing money around you can always do the Home Run Derby Drinking game as devised by HomerDerby.com.
The rules are very easy to follow and revolve heavily around the incoherent ramblings of Chris Berman and Joe Morgan on ESPN.
