Down to Four: US Open Semi-Finals Today

After four rounds and the quarter finals, the US Open is down to four women tennis players vying for the win. Today’s semi-final matches (schedule) include Elena Dementieva (Russia) versus Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, who’s currently ranked No. 2. Dinara Safina of (surprise, surprise) Russia versus American Serena Williams. If Serena beats Safina in this match, she’ll be the new World No. 1. If not, well, we’re not exactly sure what happens then. See, we’re more in this for the chicks than anything. Speaking of which…

Ana Ivanovic Loses In 2nd Round of US Open… Retains No. 1 Seed As Hottest Tennis Player

The tennis world received quite a blow today as super-hottie superstar Ana Ivanovic lost her 2nd round US Open match to the 188th ranked Clemson grad Julie Coin. The loss marks the earliest exit of a number one seed in the Open’s 40 year history.

We here at COED are crushed to see our favorite felt-whacker receive such a crushing blow so early in the tournament. And although it is certain Ivanovic will lose her status as the No. 1 player in the world, she still remains our #1 seed as COED’s Sexiest Athlete of the 2008 US Open.

A year ago this time, no one would have predicted a Thanksgiving weekend game between Missouri and Kansas would wind up one of the most highly viewed of the season. Or that USC’s game against Stanford would carry greater implications than its subsequent trip to Cal.

But who are we kidding? We’re college football fans. We’re still going to circle certain games on the calendar months before their arrival with the anticipation that these showdowns will carry monumental stakes by the time they’re played.
