Sen. John McCain will choose businessman and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney as Vice President, in his bid for the White House this November, a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.

Though others were close in the running, the choice ultimately came down to the money–not the man. According to our source, the campaign narrowed their Vice Presidential options to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, the two most successful opponents of McCain in the bid for the Republican nomination. But despite Huckabee’s sway with far Right conservatives and evangelical voters, Romney packs the deepest fund-raising pockets. Read More »

Hillary and Barack: When Attack Ads Backfire

Hillary Clinton Barack Obama

Many candidates running in the primaries are able to go back to their political careers nearly unscathed by the political process. It is already clear, however, that this campaign will have a lasting effect upon the political trajectories of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

As a recent New York Times article comments, Obama’s campaign can be summed up in one word: growth. Obama’s campaign has only added to the inspirational picture portrayed through his two-bestselling books, “Dreams of My Father”, and “The Audacity of Hope”. He is compared to Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King to such an extent that some fear for his personal safety.

Clinton’s campaign, on the other hand, seems to be about mudslinging and accusations. Should Hillary lose, it’s possible that her tactics during this race will haunt her political career. Read More »

Of course, health reform is a large issue, but as the COED office’s grandfather (@ 25), as long as I can remember there has always been a need for health reform - but it never happens. As long as the economy is steady, it makes a great election talking point but then dies off. Yeah Clinton tried it, but it got pissed all over like a Girl Scout at R-Kelly’s house.

For those of you failing Econ 101, let me re-use a very famous explanation: Read More »

Hillary Heckled “Iron My Shirt”

Ten minutes into Sen. Clinton’s address to a crowd of 700 in Salem, NH, a man near the front of the hall interrupted the remarks — standing up with a big, yellow sign reading “Iron My Shirt” and loudly chanting the same phrase. He was soon joined by another man in the back.

“Iron my shirt!” will take over “Don’t tase me, bro!” as the trendiest new phrase in 5, 4, 3…
