Gays Rejoice with Petruzelli’s Win

So the meanest homeless man in the world was destroyed by the most outspoken self-described “goofy homo” I have ever seen. There are some pretty disturbing pictures out there that put this new MMA hero into a new light. All of a sudden, Chapelle’s sissy fights does not seem too far away.

Yet, in other circles, CBS is reeling from their long-term relationship with Elite XC which is almost completely based on the saleability and marketability of Kimbo Slice. What is ironic, is the backlash taking place in the network and in Elite XC itself. It appears that Kimbo did not want to fight Seth, and actually insisted on a cash bonus of $10,000 to take the fight.

Kimbo Goes Down - Who is Seth Petruzelli?

Kimbo got knocked-the-f*&k out!

THEN, everyone started making excuses because everyone was scared that Kimbo and his posse were going to riot. “Oh, he took it on such short notice,” and the winner - Seth Petruzelli was even forced to pretend that he wasn’t just as unready for the fight. “He didn’t train for me, I didn’t train for him. That’s what happens,” Petruzelli said on CBS. “It was unexpected,” Slice said in response. “It’s all good.”At least Kimbo was prepared for Shamrock, who is a legend. Petruzelli was prepped for some scrub on the pre-fight card while people get beer before the fight.

Petruzelli beat the undefeated Ferguson in only 14 seconds in the first round. The fight was ruled a technical knock out after being stopped by the referee due to strikes. The blows left Ferguson stunned and bleeding with a large cut above his eye.

What is worse is that Shamrock didn’t fight…5 stitches? Another example of how CBS is not exactly ready for MMA. Shamrock was not medically cleared to fight by the Florida State Athletic Commission after receiving a cut above his eye while training last night - how bush league!

Oh yeah - Gina Carano is still ridiculously hot and she beat up some dumpy chick.

UPDATE: I am REALLY sick of everyone today talking about how Kimbo wasn’t prepared for Petruzelli and he trained for Shamrock. Let us break it down this way…the bell rang, Seth punched him in the face, Kimbo crumpled…was he NOT PREPARED FOR SHAMROCK TO PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE ? Cuz I have news for you, that was part of the plan in Shamrocks court. There was a definite plan to punch Kimbo in the face - that was confirmed. So enough of the gameplan sh*t - it didn’t even go to the ground at ALL. There were 14 seconds, and 8 of which were spent with Kimbo getting punched in the face…done.

Elite XC’s Gina Carano Wins…Still a Knock Out

If you are not a fan of MMA, then the uber-hottie / super badass Gina Carano is certain to make you a believer. Tonight, the “face of women’s mixed martial arts” bludgeoned the mug of Kelly Kobold to victory in a brutal, three-round brawl… and did I mention how hot she looked doing it?  Thank you God for TiVo.

Lawler Retains EliteXC Belt

Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith met for the second time in less then two months on Saturday, July 26. The event, called ‘Unfinished Business,’ CBS’ second MMA telecast, featured the two competitors as the main event, after their first attempt to decide the fate of the EliteXC Middleweight title was stopped do to an accidental eye poke. They did not disappoint.

Both men came to fight, and both showed a decent aptitude for changing their game plans to be more effective in the stand-up game. Lawler refused to be bullied by Smith but did respect his power, swimming inside and using short uppercuts, hooks, and knees to the body to keep Smith guessing. Scott ‘Hands Of Steel’ Smith stuck to his same explosive style but picked his shots in intelligent fashion and kept the pace, refusing to empty the gas tank unless he really needed to.

Smith had Lawler rocked several times, wobbling him in the first round and almost stopping the fight. Robbie endured the punishment, survived to the second, and employed a very effective Thai Clinch, pulling Smith’s head towards the mat and landing knees that eventually finished the fight. A great fight, explosive and exciting. I’m not sure who’s really left for Lawler in EliteXC. Read More »

EliteXC And CBS, Round 2

Tonight at 9pm [EST], EliteXC and CBS will team up again to present their second offering of MMA on basic cable to the fans. While this card lacks the big eyeball magnet names like Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, it does have some very exciting fights, including 2 with title implications.

Robbie Lawler v. Scott Smith, Second Go-Around

Those who watched the first CBS card will remember their first fight. A stand-up war where we saw both men give as much punishment as they took. Smith was the underdog, and for sure was losing (on points) in their first meeting, but we never got to see the end thanks to an accidental eye poke from Lawler that led to the doctor stopping the fight early. Well, now we get to see them go at again. Look for the Champ (Lawler) to play the same game he did last time, spend a round or two feeling Smith out, avoiding the power and picking his openings carefully. The competitiveness of this fight lies in the hands of Scott Smith. If he does as he usually does, he’ll probably punch himself out by the middle of round two and then start dropping his hands. Perhaps having already fought this fight once will lead him to a more tactical approach.
Prediction: Lawler by TKO. Read More »

Kimbo vs. Brock Lesnar: The Battle of Attractions

kimbo-slice-vs-block-lesnar.JPG

This past weekend, street fighter Kimbo Slice entered the Elite XC octagon and burst James Thompson’s cauliflower ear. It was bloody, exciting, and saved Kimbo from what was sure to be a loss.

Kimbo Slice, a former varsity football player, bouncer, and bodyguard, became famous via underground street fights posted on YouTube. He’d win his fights by fiercely bludgeoning his opponents, which turned the heavy-hitter into an over night sensation.

Kimbo decided to take his craft to the world of Mixed Martial Arts, and so far has a record of 2-0. On Saturday though, his weaknesses were exposed: Despite being a great street fighter and striker, Kimbo is out of his element on the ground. If an experienced opponent like Tito Ortiz takes him down, he’s potentially finished.

But there is another famous Mixed Martial Artist who is as inexperienced as Kimbo,ds but is generating buzz–former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Read More »

CBS + MMA = A Travesty to Martial Arts

elitexc_cbs

So CBS wanted to bring MMA to primetime tonight, and it was a mess.If you would like the short summary, take 4 of your favorite MMA fights and end them 3 minutes too early. Every star that the network and the Elite XC executives wanted to win - had the fights handed to them on a silver platter.

We learned that Kimbo Slice is not a professional fighter. He fought a decent heavyweight, James Thompson, and could not handle a simple take down. The stoppage was a f**king joke, CBS is a joke, Elite XC is joke.

You want to watch real MMA, watch UFC on Spike/PPV.
