Another Dark Knight Review

When I was six years old, my dad took me to see a movie that made a lasting impression in my life. That movie was Batman. If Superman gave us the quintessential superhero in Christopher Reeve, then Batman gave us his counterpart in Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of Batman’s nemesis, the Joker. After almost twenty years, nobody has been able to top Jack’s performance, until last night.

The Dark Knight, the latest installment in the Batman movie franchise, returns us to same conflict between Batman and the Joker, with a Joker that makes Jack Nicholson look like Cesar Romero (look it up if you don’t get the reference). Read More »

Dark Knight: First Five Minutes

dark knight heath ledger joker

Somehow, some way, somebody sneaked a video camera into a screening for the much anticipated Dark Knight, scheduled for release on July 18th, in both regular theaters and IMAX. The quality is about as good as buying a bootleg copy from a dude in Chinatown, but for all of you who can’t wait (i.e., all of you), here’s the first five minutes of Dark Knight!

Check out the first five minutes of Dark Knight here!

Heath Ledger Is An Oscar Front Runner

By all accounts Heath Ledger’s performance in Dark Knight is nothing short of amazing–and the chatter that he could be in line for a posthumous Oscar is turning into an all-out battle cry. But that doesn’t mean he’ll win.

From LATimes.com:

Just after returning from a screening of “The Dark Knight,” KTLA reporter Sam Rubin declared on his blog that Heath Ledger gives such “a blockbuster performance” as the Joker that he’ll “absolutely be nominated for an Oscar, and at this point in the year, Ledger is also a hands-down favorite to win it posthumously.

The Most Anticipated Movies of 2009

anticipated

Yeah, yeah, we know - it’s 2008. So why talk about the movies of 2009 so soon?

With the advent of viral marketing and extremely early teaser trailers being leaked eons before a movie is scheduled for release, you can never be too early to start talking about films. Hell, you’re lucky this list isn’t about the most anticipated movies of 2010, which could’ve been done just as easy - and it still would’ve been way behind the internet’s buzz schedule.

Some of these movies will be sure fire hits, while others are doomed to flop. Either way, we offer you the chance to share your opinion in the comment section.

Vote at the bottom for what you feel will be the best of 2009. Read More »

Let Ledger Rest

Heath LedgerEven reporting on this makes me sick: a shocking video of Heath Ledger snorting cocaine at a party has surfaced (read: Entertainment Tonight bought it for $200,000).

The video, set to air on ET tonight, has since been pulled, out of respect for Ledger’s family.

I’m sure ET was being respectful when they bought the footage in the first place.

The hullabaloo surrounding Legder’s death is spinning out of control. Drugs, of course, were the dealbreaker in his demise; that much we know. But unearthing an old video of him indulging in the drug of denial doesn’t reveal anything new or relevant to anybody. It does, however, prove the entire affair is just a CASH-IN FOR BOTTOM-FEEDING TABLOID NAZIS.

There’s no sympathy for the dead in the land of “top story” blogs and “exclusive photo” paps. Hell, I’m guilty as charged as well - I’m letting this bother me enough to blog about it.

Exploiting the death of Ledger through “final pictures,” “exclusive interviews” and “shocking videos” is disgusting. I follow suit in reporting this because, well, you want to read about it. It’s “news,” right?

Here’s an idea, bloggers and readers: go outside. Do something relevant. Get the f** away from the computer for a moment and stop obsessing over celebrities.

John Gibson Takes Jabs at Heath Ledger’s Death

John Gibson

The latest scandal involving a talking head stepping over the line features Fox News host John Gibson, who mocked the recent death of Heath Ledger on his radio show.

Gibson, being the upstanding Christian he is, bashed Ledger early and often on his program, playing funeral music in the background while airing clips of the actor’s performance in Brokeback Mountain, poking fun at each one. For example, Ledger’s line in Brokeback Mountain (”I wish I could quit you”) was followed by Gibson’s snarky remark, “Well, he found out how to quit you.”

The talk show host even dealt low-blows towards Ledger’s death during unrelated news pieces, like when talking about the recent stock market drop and the Democratic debate in South Carolina.

Smooth moves, a**hole.

Heath Ledger Dead at 28

Heath Ledger dead

Heath Ledger, the Oscar-nominated actor (Brokeback Mountain) who plays the Joker in the upcoming Dark Knight, was found dead by a housekeeper in his Soho apartment.

He leaves behind his two-year-old daughter, Matilda.

Police have yet to confirm the reason of his death, though pills were found near his body.

Like Brandon Lee (The Crow) before him, the 28-year-old star has left us with a fitting, parting adieu - a feature film. Rest in peace, Heath.
