Lollapalooza 2008 Rocks You Long Time

It’s a revival! This year’s Lollapalooza at Chicago’s Grant Park promises to rock the pants off, well, anybody wearing pants like no other time since Jane’s Addiction glory days. The madness kicks-off tomorrow (Aug. 1st) with bands like The Black Keys, Gogol Bordello and Radiohead ready to rock down the house–and that’s just day one.

The festival goes until August 3rd, with Rage Against the Machine reuniting to end the second day, and Kaye West–who’s reportedly being introduced by Mr. Hope, Sen. Barack Obama himself–will close out the festival. (Nine Inch Nails is playing at bascially the same time.) You can check out the entire line-up here.

Unfortunately, rumor has it that most days for the festival are all sold out, but luckily you can still get tickets here… And you thought we wouldn’t hook you up…

Kanye West’s Bonnaroo Disaster

Kanye West was nearly booed off the stage at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival.

The Grammy winning man-Diva was originally scheduled to perform at 8:15 p.m., but was pushed to an exhausting 2:45a.m. By 4:15 a.m. there was still no Kanye. Understandably agitated fans “began hurling glow sticks at the stage and screaming anti-West sentiments.”

From the few people that actually stuck around to see his performance, the reviews have been less than stellar. A fan on Stereogum.com said, “He was two hours late, cut his show short, didn’t once acknowledge the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye…I’m no longer a Kanye fan, huge disappointment.”

Why the 2008 Grammys Were Terrible

2008 g

Ohmigodohmigodohmigod!! So, weren’t the Grammys amazing? When Alicia Keys did that duet with Frank Sinatra, wasn’t it mindblowing? I was like, she’s singing with Frank Sinatra…but he’s dead I think! How’d they do that? It’s weird man…the future is now, just like they say.

Can you believe there was also a Beatle tribute, with interpretive dancers? Genius, right? I wish I thought of that idea myself; it was really artsy. TV show people are so smart and creative.

Oh, I almost forgot! Remember the part when Beyonce sang that Tina Turner song with Tina Turner? It was simply the best. (Yeah, I know that wasn’t the song’s name but it was the name of another Tina Turner song, right? I love puns!) Beyonce is like Tina Turner, but even more newer and more prettier.

Now I know everybody says art is protective, but if somebody told me Kanye is still a jerk after watching him rap about his mom they would be wrong. Really wrong - and stupid. Read More »

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco’s “The Cool”

Lupe Fiasco The CoolLupe Fiasco’s debut album Food and Liquor showcased the quick-witted rapper’s penchant for good vibes and G.O.O.D. beats, following in the footsteps of Chicago’s pride and joy, Common and Kanye West. His ambitious coupling of diverse subjects and long narratives (summarized with his heartfelt paean to skateboarding, “Kick, Push”) made for a well-rounded but exhausting listen (the nine-minute “Outro” was a miscalculation).

Being too eager to please all audiences may have stunted Food and Liquor ever so slightly, but not enough to consider it anything less than a good album by a promising artist. Now in 2007, The Cool is upon us.

After a poetry-slam intro and a forgettable, minute-long Akon-esque dirge The Cool picks up where Food and Liquor left off, with Fiasco’s witty wordplay and ever-changing flow dominating “Go Go Gadget Flow,” while “The Coolest” echoes latter-day Jay-Z over brooding synth-work. So far, so-so. Read More »

Enough of Kanye West’s Mom

kanye_westShe died of elective cosmetic surgery. Tragedy? Sure. But after watching the AMA Awards, you would have thought she died of cancer or leukemia. When she went in for her nose job/tummy tuck/ whatever - she accepted the risks of that surgery.

Over the weekend, thousands of people died of terminal diseases. People with families who have struggled and sacrificed with the hopes that their loved ones would be able to live or breathe one more day. They were NOT dreaming for smaller asses or nicer body parts.

My issue is that I was beaten up for several hours about keeping Kanye in my thoughts and prayers…yeah ok…you get one, but that’s it. There’s still a war going on, there’s some f***ing psycho in North Korea, Musharef is running Pakistan like Stewie Griffin…oh, wait - Kanye’s mom died from cosmetic surgery. Read More »
