Nickelodeon’s “Yo Gabba Gabba”: Just Add Weed and Enjoy

Yo Gabba Gabba

It’s funny how shows for children and shows for stoners are almost exactly the same. Well, this time, they are. As ABC.com reports, “Yo Gabba Gabba,” the colorful and undeniably hilarious show on Nickelodeon, teaching toddlers things like good nutrition and how to make their bed, has become a hit with 20-somethings across the country.

Sex Crazed Puppets are Taking Over MTV

This is not you father’s Sesame Street… not even close. Variety is reporting “MTV [UK] has picked up Fur TV, an adult comedy series about a group of foulmouthed, sex-mad puppets, made by Warp Films, the U.K. shingle behind BAFTA-winning feature This Is England.” The show is set to air Fridays in May on MTV One. It is still to early to tell if the muppet sex show will make it’s way across the pond for American puppet-sex fetishists. Fingers crossed.

Kermit is the “Spokesfrog” for Supreme?

Kermit Supreme ads

Remember the Muppet revival in the mid 90s? Of course you do.

Parody shirts sporting Kermit and friends were all the rage in the 90s, along with lesser attempts by the Looney Tunes (I think people still wear both in certain parts of the country…). Now, our Favorite Frog has once again entered the world of fashion - and it’s AWESOME.

I don’t care who you are, one cannot deny the pairing up of Kermit the Frog with notorious photographer Terry Richardson as anything less than genius. Appearing in ads for the street-wear brand Supreme, Kermit will appear in a photography exhibition in Paris at Colette featuring himself and Richardson posing in the brand’s clothing and decks.

Supreme’s past spokespeople include Raekwon, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones.

Muppets, man - they are eternal.

“Riverbottom Nightmare Band” is the Greatest Christmas Song of All Time

It’s indisputable: “Riverbottom Nightmare Band” is not only the greatest Christmas song of all time, but the greatest song of all time, period.

I’m not even joking: check the heavy as f*** main riff, 70’s glam-rock moves and of course, the most bad-a** lyrics and melodies ever penned by puppets. This makes stoner-rock groups like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple sound like Smash Mouth by comparison.

So what if the lyrics don’t deal directly with Christmas. Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, the movie the song is featured in, is a holiday movie; it’s festive by default. And it totally destroys Emmet’s entry into the talent show, the lame-o “In Our World/Brothers.”

Lightning Bolt + Muppets = Muppet Bolt

This is what happens when noise-rock duo Lightning Bolt (one of the best bands recording today) meets the Muppet collective:

Isn’t Animal a dead-ringer for LB drummer Brian Chippendale?

“Dracula Mountain” is on Lightning Bolt’s seminal album, Wonderful Rainbow (2003).

11 Of The Craziest College Courses Ever

muppetsThe most boring class I took in college was Statistics I.

It was boring and hard, which meant that no matter what I tried, I constantly fell asleep next to my computer and woke up completely lost.

If only I could have taken one of these classes compiled by Mental Floss Magazine, I’m sure my GPA would have looked much better. Instead of dozing off to the lulling sound of a professor droning on about ratios, I could have been studying muppets and watching Sesame Street.

All of these, at one time, actually existed.

The Horror Film in ContextBowdoin – Watch people get their heads smashed in and then talk about why society likes to watch people get their heads smashed in.

Simpsons and PhilosophyCal-Berkeley – How much does this popular show reflect society? Apparently enough to warrant a semester’s worth of lectures.
