Which starting pitchers, currently in the majors or recently retired, are shoe-ins for induction into the baseball Hall of Fame?

It’s a debate myself and my friends had over a few beers last night that quickly got heated. Everyone has loyalty to their hometown teams. Being from Boston I lobbied hard for Curt Schilling while the Jersey crew was pushing for Andy Pettitte.

So to settle this thing once and for all, we decided to analyze the stats to give you a definitive list of starting pitchers who are of Hall of Fame caliber, listed from most deserving on top to least deserving.

Tim Tebow’s Name Comes Up In Sexual Obscenity Trial

File this under the perils of popularity. And there’s not a lot Tim Tebow can do about it.

Arguably the most popular athlete in the state of Florida — and whose legend has grown beyond all boundaries of college football (search: circumcision) — Tebow’s name surfaced in an unusual arena — a sexual obscenity trial.

JJ Redick Needs To Be Back In College

Must have been fun averaging over 30 pts a game and draining 19 foot threes in college eh JJ? And it must have been even more fun knowing that the ladies were lining up just to take pictures with you, and in some cases licking those pictures. But oh how times have changed for Mr. JJ Redick. Cinderella Fresno State Pushes Third Game In CWS

The final numbers, if not quite staggering, were at least a bit outsized, especially for a College World Series game.

Between them, Fresno State and Georgia combined for 35 hits and 29 runs — an unrelenting parade of 29 singles, eroding the arms and perhaps the sanity of both pitching staffs. The teams tried 10 pitchers, most of them pitching on little more than willpower at the end of a long season, and the group produced a 14.29 ERA.

In the end, after 3 hours, 55 minutes of slap hits, line drives and runs, runs, runs, the game’s 100th batter, Georgia cleanup hitter Rich Poythress popped up a pitch from Jake Hower. Second baseman Erik Wetzel settled under it on the outfield grass and a Fresno State team no one expected to be here had survived another elimination attempt, 19-10.

Wednesday night, the Bulldogs and Bulldogs will play a third time to decide the NCAA championship. [UWIRE]

Sure watching it in your room with a bag of Cheetos can be fun, but nothing beats catching it with a few thousands of your classmates. And the students on these campuses have it way better then the rest. Read More »
