Every two years the best golfers from the United States and Europe compete in a three day competition for the coveted Ryder Cup. Before 1979 the United States absolutely dominated the competition but recently the Europeans have owned the cup. Since 1997 the Europeans have won the Ryder Cup four out of the last five matches. This year’s American team boasts six rookies to the squad making the United States an underdog for the first time.
