Bullsh*t: 25 States Trying To Ban ‘Sparks Red’

At Seton Hall University the pre-game drink of choice is Sparks! Mmmm, just looking at pictures of the Sparks’ orange can makes my mouth water.

To the displeasure of America’s youth 25 US Senators (including New Jersey’s) are looking to rain on Sparks’ fan’s parade by banning the new Sparks Red. They feel the 8-percent alcohol by volume content of Sparks Red may be dangerous to students health and have called on producer MillerCoors to nix its release. Read More »

Major Changes Coming To The Major Leagues

23114056.jpgCoaches, GMs, owners, players and fans are calling for monumental changes to America’s game.

Most likely will be the addition of instant replay so we don’t have any Jeffrey Maier situations, and the regulation of maple bats as they have been shattering at a record pace and it is only a matter of time before someone get seriously injured.

Less likely (but still on the plate) are new draft regulations that will put a cap on how much power top prospects like Seton Hall’s Rick Porcello and their agents Scott Boras has over teams vying for talent.

Oh sh*t, I forgot about Hank Steinbrenner who has a strong opinion of the NL after the Yankees’ star pitcher Wang was injured running the bases saying, “My only message is simple: The National League needs to grow up and join the 21st century. I’ve got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He’s going to be out. I don’t like that, and it’s about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s.”

But what about banning over sized body armor or pointing to the sky after crossing home plate? Or the $2 hot dog rule and outlawing sushi from concession stands?

These are the New Rules Of Baseball that have been submitted by fans across America and outlined by CBS Sportsline. Although ridiculous, some of these rules make a lot of sense–and should be tested in the minor leagues.

If I had my way, I’d implement a Boni Jovi rule that would call the music legend to perform during the 7th inning stretch of every game Yankee game until the end of the season. That’s a little unrealistic and being from New Jersey, I’m biased. So for now, we’ll just have to settle for a free Bon Jovi All-Star game concert at Central Park.

Grades Dropping? Hope You Like Taking the Bus…

Controversy is brewing at the State University of New York at Old Westbury, where school officials have recently started to enforce an old rule that requires on-campus residents to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

The New York Times reports that one student, whose grades slipped due to an illness during exam week, received a letter informing her of this policy only days before the spring semester. She was also dropped from the meal plan, and her ID card no longer allowed her access to her dorm, making even clearing out her belongings difficult.

Some schools, such as Seton Hall and SUNY Farmingdale, have GPA minimums as well, but lack Old Westbury’s zero tolerance policy, instead offering tutoring and academic monitoring to low-performing students. Other schools offer free or reduced-rate housing to those with high GPAs. Read More »

NCAA Basketball Picks Of The Day - Feb. 12, 2008

NCAA Basketball Picks Of The Day

Yesterday did not fair well for our cappers as they racked up one win but three L’s.

New comer Fenboy (taking Portland - 5 last night) can thank Pepperdine’s Rico Tucker (Facebook Message or Poke) for scoring 17 points, all of them in the second half, as Pepperdine overcame an 18-point second-half deficit to beat Portland 71-66 giving Fenboy an 0-1 start.

Like Bone (taking Kansas -4.5 last night) said this was a huge game for both Texas and Kansas. The rivalry is quickly becoming the marquee match-up of the Big 12 conference. Bone’s player to watch, Brandon Rush (Facebook message or poke), was the key to Kansas’ loss scoring only 10 points, 3 below his season average, securing a 3 point cover busting loss for the Jayhawks.

New comer Gebsta (taking St. Mary’s +5.5 last night) didn’t fair well either. It came down to the wire but St. Mary’s couldn’t tack on two additional last seconds points to cover the spread in their 54-50 win against Santa Clara.

DA Zeus (taking Utah State +6.5 last night) was right on with his prediction as Vegas gave Utah State 1.5 points too many. Utah State covered the +6.5 spread bringing DA Zeus to an overall tie with Bone at 1-1.

Today we welcome capper K-Lo from Seton Hall University - hopefully he has a better first round then Fenboy and Gebsta did yesterday.

On Sunday, Bone took a 1-0 lead over DA Zeus when Wake Forest beat University of Virginia 80-64.

As Bone predicted, Lawrence Joel Coliseum was rocking behind James Johnson’s 21 point performance. DA Zeus said the key to the game would be Hasheem Thabeet and what a game he had, scoring a career-high 24 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked six shots in leading No. 19 UConn to a spread busting 80-68 win on Saturday.

Today we add two new cappers to the mix, Gebsta and Fenboy - lets see how they do.
