The expo is finally over. All the producers and designers can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to making games instead of pimping them. All in all I felt, as an outside observer, that the show left me slightly wanting. There was no groundbreaking news, no giant promises, and no real blockbuster game announced that we didn’t already know about.
The Nintendo Talk
Nintendo is about making cash. Which isn’t a bad thing. Unless you’re a serious hardcore Nintendo gamer fan boy who wishes they’d remake Zombie’s At My Neighbors for the Wii.I wouldn’t say they are done with hardcore games altogether, but the order of the day is definitely casual stuff, and their talk certainly said that. They did introduce some new hardware for the Wiimote that promised more accurate movement…and then used it to throw a Frisbee to a dog in Wii Sports 2. Read More »
Summer’s here and that means it’s time to neglect that reading list and playing some goddamn video games. No problem. Here’s five classic games that you should be able to find in the used/bargain bin section that’ll give you all the excuse you need to ignore other, less important things in your life. Read More »

I feel so bad for this poor kid that if I find out who it is I’ll personally send him a new Xbox 360. His parents borrowed a neighbors old Xbox 360 packaging and gave it to their kid for Christmas with a couple of shirts inside.
Every calendar year sports titles roll out their latest entries, mostly consisting of updated rosters, one new gameplay feature (that gets nixed the following year) and slight tweaks in the graphic department (high-resolution goatees).
2K Sports, the company that handles MLB exclusively, is well aware of this, and has reevaluated their franchise, rebuilding it from the ground up.
I recently played a test demo of the upcoming Major League Baseball 2K8, scheduled for release next Tuesday - and the changes this year are more than cosmetic.
For starters, the gameplay that was marred with inconsistencies last year (shoddy errors and bugs galore) has been completely revamped. Most controls, whether pitching, fielding or batting, utilize the right analog stick this time around (I played the XBox 360 version; the PS3 uses the same control scheme).
For pitching, buttons have gone by the wayside, with different combinations of analog stick movement determining what pitch you throw and how accurate; batting controls require a back-and-forth upswing to make contact. Throwing to each base is also done with the analog control. Read More »
Across the country there are shortages of the Nintendo Wii, and with good reason: it’s the hottest gift this holiday season - for the second season in a row.
The motion-controlled marvel is set to lead the console pack in holiday sales, outselling both the PS3 and Xbox 360 - if it can maintain its stock. Nintendo’s grip on the gaming industry - both the Wii and Nintendo DS are major sellers worldwide, with combined sales over 1 million in October - may be loosened up with Sony’s recent price drop and Xbox 360’s essential library. Hardcore gamers that already own Xbox 360 will flock to their local electronics store to snag a less-pricey PS3; scrappy gaming upstarts will sink their teeth into Xbox 360’s deeper catalog of games.
But parents? Most of them will wait it out for a Wii. Read More »
At 12:00 this morning Halo 3 was unleashed to the masses with an anticipation rivaled only by the biggest big-budget movies.
Being a relative newbie to the series - I had to play a lot of catch-up, as I only recently purchased an Xbox 360 - the Halo experience I have denied for so long has taken me in, hook and sinker.
While I’m only a few hours into this FPS masterwork I can say with the utmost confidence that fans and novices alike can rest easy: it’s exactly what you hoped for and more.
To ensure convenience I have broken down this quick article into two parts, one for veterans of the series and one for newcomers. Read More »
